George Yoder Sr. at the age of 87
Son of Adam Yoder and Harriet A. Isanhart (AD)
1847-George W. Yoder-1934- OBITUARY: "George W. Yoder
was born in Seneca County, Ohio, Feb. 6, 1847 and died Sept.
24, 1934 aged 87 years, seven months and 18 days. When he was
eight years of age he came with his widowed mother, four sisters
and three brothers to Williams County where they settled on a
wooded farm, three miles east and one mile south of Edon. At
the age of 16 when the Civil war had broken out he enlisted with
Company H, the third Ohio Cavalry where he served two years and
six months, with the Union Army with which he endured the hardships
of camp life and danger on the battlefields. After the war he
came home to the family and in the year 1874 he married his wartime
sweetheart, Miss Adaline Corbette. To this union were born two
sons, Charles of Montpelier and Adam of Pioneer. In 1880 he moved
with his family to a farm which he had bought just west of Pioneer
where he lived a very progressive and successful life. He was
a man of sturdy character ever mindful of the welfare of others
and always ready to aid in time of need. He leaves to mourn their
loss, one aged sister, Cilicia Haynes in Washington state; two
sons, Charles and Adam, three grandsons, George, Lorin and Ralph
and four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services at the home, Wednesday afternoon conducted by
Rev. J.F. Slough burial in Floral Grove cemetary."--information

This listing is for the following items from the Civil War. A
photo of a union soldier in uniform reclining with his rifle,
canteen, bedroll, cup and other necessities of the period. The
photo was taken by Chas. A. Saylor Photographer, S.E. Corner

as: Seneca Yoder. His wife was Sarah? Hiester - Yoder who married
James Keller of Topeka, KS after her first husbands death. Seneca
Yoder was Born Nov. 30, 1848 and died Mar. 17 1872 at 24 yrs

Now for the rest of the story. Mr. Yoder gave this photo along
with a handkerchief and a pin-back button to a lady known as
' Grandma Clauson Jones. I purchased these items and the old
note explaining their history from the estate of one of her decendants.
Here's what the note says: " Grandma Clauson-Jones Hanky
over About 75 or 80 yrs old. Given to her by a Union Soldier
in Civil War for letting him sleep over. Had big bags full of
nice things. Some one she knew. ". (Sold on eBay Oct 2002) |
