Enjoy you web page. Although YODER is not my direct line. I find it very often in my research connected with my Pennsylvania ancestors in Lancaster Co. I am a descendant of both Emmanuel and Gabriel ZIMMERMAN/CARPENTER, sons of Heinrich ZIMMERMAN that came from Wattenwil,Bern,Switzerland to America in 1702. Other families connected with this that I am researching are: RUFENER MOGERT/MERGERT LINE FERREE KNODE JOHNSTON HERMANN----later into Ohio and IA/KS, the names that enter the family are : GASKILL GRIFFEE HANAWALT ELEY ALLEN BURTON TAYLOR DAWSON CADWALLADER . I would like to make contact with people researching same. I do have info to share. My main roadblock with the early ZIMMERMAN family is finding more info on the lines of the females. Thankyou Kathy

Love the site! I found my relatives all the way back to Barbara (mother of "strong" Jacob) While you don't list a first name for him, I was always led to believe that Jacob Yoder died at sea enroute from Switzerland to PA in 1742 leaving wife Barbara nine children. . . Confirmation of this would be great. I'd love to recommend several books to you all, they're available from Faith Life Press and written by my Uncle James D. Yoder. Titles are: "The Yoder Outsiders", "Sarah of the Border Wars" "Barbara: Sarah's Legacy". I'm curious as to how we can add to your information? Please reply.

In July of 1996 I attended the Yoder reunion in Reading, PA. along with my husband Rod, also my brothers David B. Charles C. Yoder and sisters Edith Yoder Godfrey, Evelyn Yoder Buchholz. What a wonderful time we had meeting so many wonderful relatives. Victor James Yoder was our father, he passed away April 19, 1996, son of Isaac C. Yoder (died 1955). Would like to hear from anyone that has done work on this line of the Oley Yoder family.

Great site!!! My wife and I are both descendants of Barbara Hochstedler Christian Stutzman. I found a copy of the "desendants of Barbara Hochstedler Christian Stutzman" at an auction in Kalona Ia. It has been real helpful in searching family linage. My Grandparents on my fathers side are Samuel D. Yoder,b. Mar. 20 1864 at Becks Mills, Ohio and Nancy AnnStutzman,b.Nov. 17,1866 at Benton Ohio. I hear that there is to be a Yoder Stutzman reunion in Ohio in 1999, Don"t have the exact dates and location but will keep you posted. I was wondering if there are any other desendants of Jacob C. Stutzman Anna Bontrager of Holmes Co. Ohio in the Springfield Mo. area.

Hi I'm Yoder connected from both sides of my family! I got interested in searching for roots last summer when I was on bed rest with the pregnancy of my son Alex. A great way to fill all those empty hours. I now finally have a few spare minutes to continue to fill in the pieces and last week found the connection between my parents families. My father, Willman King 1919, son of Emery King 1898, son of Menno S. King 1865, son of John C. King 1829, son of Jacob King 1787 who married Mary Yoder 1794, son of Christian King abt 1761, son of Samuel Koenig, immigrant who married Anna Yoder 1728. And on my mothers side Mary Stutzman, daughter of Daniel Stutzman 1888, son of Duzilla Stutzman 1858,daughter of Abraham Stutzman 1826, son of Jacob Stutzman 1796, son of Jacob Stutzman 1760 and Anna Yoder 1761, daughter of Christian Yoder 1722. Anna and Christian were the children of widow Barbara Yoder. Any help in further family history would be greatly appreciated. Also would love to hear from cousins. My research began with Jacob M. Troyer (1853-1930) as the family had put a book together. Many of the family includes Yoders to this day, plus the OMII Genealogy Project allowed me to work back to the Yoder immigrants. The Yoders are important in the history of the evolution of the U.S. and your page certainly makes this clear. So many of the names mentioned are related to my patrilineal line because the Amish-Mennonite community was so close-knit. As German was still being spoken by my grandparents, there was a strong ethnic influence, esp. in the colonizing of the Midwest. As I'm doing my research from Australia where my husband comes from, sites like this are invaluable to make connections. I can be contacted by mail at P.O. Box 16, Abbotsford, Victoria, Australia 3067 or e-mail oconsys@eisa.net.au. Thank you for providing a valuable service.

Just wanted to let the Yoder families know about a book recently published Masthof Press; RR 1 Box 20; Morgantown, PA 19543. Title: "Where's Momma?, The Story of Mabel (Smucker) Yoder. Written by her daughter Marion Delgrange of VA. This is a wonderful book, I received a copy as a gift from one of Mabel's granddaughters. It speaks well of the love and caring that is present in the Yoder families. This is not an advertisement for the book, I have no connections to Mastof publishing, nor the Yoder family. I simply enjoyed the book and thought Yoder families might also enjoy it. Thank you. Betty Burdan

Wonderful site!!! My sister has been doing family research on the Yoder side, and sent info that my dad sent me, so she really gets the credit. My great-grandfather, James Marion Yoder, son of Francis Marion Yoder, is the one who took the picture of Miss Edna Yoder in Shell city, MN, in 1884. Shell city was founded in part by francis M. Yoder. James M. Yoder married Margaret Etta Doran in Shell City in Aug 1882. The Yoders then moved to Menahga, then to Fargo, North Dakota in 1886. We never knew where our great-grandparents came from (after Iowa), until a few years ago when our father, Donald Yoderwas looking at property less than 5 miles from the original Shell City site, and was asked by the Wadena County Historical society if he was related to the Yoders who founded Shell City!!!! The county owns the property of shell city now, and there are signs locating all of the original buildings, such as the Yoder House hotel, school, etc. For more info, please contact my sister, who has done all of the research, and needs the credit--Nancy Yoder email--Cats Paw@aol.com

Having just started looking for my roots, I was amazed when I came acroos your website. Growing up on Long Island, The only Yoders were my direct family. The only information I have so far is: Peter Yoder b.1858 in France married Margurite Grabeau or Trabeau b.1860 in Balfort France, they were married in 1881. They had 2 sons, Peter August and Joseph. Peter is my Grandfather. He married a Josephine ?/unk date/ They had 2 children. Margurite b.2/23/1910 and Peter b. 9/9/11. Josephine does not appear on the 1920 census. I'm awaiting birth certificates of my father and aunt, hoping that I will find her. Peter , who is my father, married Marie Rose Alber on 1/12/36. Mom and Dad being very prolific, had 7 children. Jeannette, Peter, Joseph, Edwin, Karen, Denise and Melody. And so here I am on your website. Are we related to you? It would be nice!!

Thanks so much for creating this site! I have just started to research the Emery and Yoder family trees and discovered my Grandfather, Rev. Edwin Stanton Yoder on your website (YB13994), a Congregational minister who was a son of Aaron (YB1399)and Fianna Crauthamel Yoder. I was surprised to see the Yoder name traced back to Switzerland since my father, Wallace R. Yoder, always told me that the four Yoder brothers immigrated from Holland when the Dutch settled New Amsterdam! Does anyone know if there is any truth to this claim?

Reply to: WStrip@aol.com I have been unable to find a connection, although I am sure there is one. My information is very limited. This is all of the info that I have on my line of Yothers. Issac Yother b. June 1862 in GA. m. Martha Adeline Williams b. 1865 in MO. Issac's mothers name was Nellie Melinda (last name unknown). Issac (could have been spelled Isaac) and Martha's children were: Allie Ada Bell b.6-1887 Effie Artelia b. 7-1887 Lelia b. 11-4-1893 (twin) Lillie b. 11-4-1893 (twin)m. John Washington McAdams (my grandparents) Sarah Alsena b. 11-1899 Ambros b. 1-25-1902 d. 11-21-1948 It is my understanding that Issac's children were born in and around Little River Co, AR and Miller Co. AR. I do know that Lillie and Ambros are buried in Miller Co. AR. If you can help me with the information that I have given you, I would really appreciate it. I do know that Issac left his wife and children when the children were very young. That is part of the reason that we know so little about the Yother's. My grandmother barely knew her father. Until later, Joan

Like so many before me, I am descended from all three early Berks Co. PA Amish immigrant Yoder families. None of my family has carried the surname for six generations, but so many of my lines of descent lead to Yoders that I am certain that I am more of a Yoder than anything else. Indeed this must be the Òmother familyÓ of all Americans with 18th century Amish ancestry. The researcher who seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of us, the maximizer looking for the most bang for his buck, can do no better than work on the European origins of the Yoder family.

I'm afraid I don't have much info now on my ancestors, only that my father was Owen Yoder of Lizzie and ? Yoder of Grantsville, MD. Owen passed away in 1969 and my second father adopted me. I will come back with more info after talking with more Yoders and hopefully add to the puzzles. I hope I can also learn more about my ancestors, as well. The only thing I remember about my ancestors (that a Yoder told me once) is that the Yoder name might have come from a family that were yodelers from Switzerland? Is there any truth to this? Will revisit this site often. Soooo many Yoders... boy, do I feel small.

Hi, I am trying to trace back my heritage and am interested in learning about my ancestors. This is what I know: Claude Yoder & Charlotte were married (date?) They had four children: Judith, Cathy, Dennis, and Barbara (in order from oldest to youngest) Judith Yoder married Paolo Leone and they had two children Josephine and Charlotte. Cathy Yoder married Richard DeGraeve and had two children Steven and Charlotte Steven married Shari and they have a daughter, Jenny. Dennis Yoder married Wendy McAllister and they had two children, Thomas and Danielle. Barbara Yoder married Anthony Saleh and they had two children, Anthony and Christina. Claude Yoder has two live sisters Nina and Virgina.

Greetings, Just found this web page and it looks wonderful. I'm a direct descendant of both Christian and his unnamed brother who came to America on the "Francis and the Elizabeth" in 1742. I found some info I didn't have and see I have data that you are lacking. I'll have to send it along. It's nice to find so much interest in our Mennonite heritage. Keep up the good work! MB

Hi, my grandmother was a Yoder, her full name was Emily or Emma Kitory Evelyne Yoder and she married my grandfather Alexander Pounds on September 15, 1899 in Steeleville, MO at the courthouse Emily or Emma was born April 6, 1879 and she died February 10, 1925. Her father's name was Layfette Yoder and her mother was Caroline (no other info on her) Layfette and Caroline both died in 1882 and they had 6 children. The names of the children were John, Sarah Ellen, Annie,Belle, Andrew and Emily or Emma I think Sarah Ellen was married to a Benton (last name) and they had 3 children (William, Harvey and Ruthie) My records show that either Annie or Belle married a Smith and the other married a Baker. Andrew died at an early age. I'm still researching and I am new to this web site and I love it. I'v gotten such good responses and the people are so nice. Keep up the good work and thanks.

I've enjoyed browsing through your site. My ancestry traces at least 5 Yoder ancestries, all leading back to the 2 different Christian Yoders. I've been demonstrating the results of these searches to my Amish Aunt, Uncles, & Cousins. They are all amazed at how the internet works.

I have tried to send information before, but every time I hit the "Submit Query button, it doesn't do it. Anyway, I have a awful lot of Yoders in my family tree, probably more than most. Not only am I descended through three of Widow Barbara Yoder's children (Veronica, Anna, and Jacob), but also through their uncle Christian (YR2) through his son John, and also through Yost Yoder (YRB) through his son Christian. It is kind of complicated. Other names in the tree include Zug/Zook (3), Kurtz, (3,Kauffman,Hooley, Koenig/King, Rickenbach,Beiler, and Blank, among others.

On my mothers side of the family around 1800, give or take a few years, a Yoder, first name unknown, married Pattie Epehimer. The Epehimer is a one generation branch in my tree. Patties parents were William Epehimer and Ann Campbell. Sorry that is all I know, except all of my mothers family were from Southeast PA.

A most excellent page. I have been a subsriber for several years and only now have I finally gotten around to sending in the story of the Rhoads descendents of Elizabeth Yoder, granddaughter of Yost, the original OLEY settler. You have done a fantastic job of presenting all known family history on the web. WOW! Where was the internet and the YODER newsletter when I started my genealogy in 1959.Keep up the good work
